We designed both content and cover in this two-volume work. Nanni Grün deals with genders, their role distributions and their use in language. One theme draws on penguins in order to depict forms of equality that are still a faraway goal for humankind: “The male is wont to step across the ice in feminine movements, broods eggs until they hatch, and is the spitting image of the female. Needless to say, he is not disinclined towards the homoerotic. But not only do man and woman look alike; all are absolutely identical, the penguin is fairness made fur.” Our cover design makes reference to this equality and, with the hard black-and-white contrast, creates a memorable image.
